| Apr. 9th, 2008 10:12 pm Sensations and frustrations Logfile from Taini. Talking about frustrations to Davram. Davram gusts a sigh, as he climbs heavily over the edge of the cave, then wipes his brow as he pulls himself to a sitting position against a wall. "You know, I'm getting to old for climbing that much."
Taini is sitting in her fairly normal spot, just looking over the waves. "Really?" She gazes out across the water, not really even hearing what he said. "Oh. Hey." She notices him. "What's going on?'
Working to control his breathing, Davram wipes his brow again, then grimaces as he replaces the cloth in his pocket. "Not a whole lot", he replies. "It's been quiet since the eggs have hatched, and..." He shrugs. "How're you and Birgith doing?"
Taini shrugs, looking over at him. Birgith suns on the beach, glancing up toward them from time to time to make sure her rider is okay. "It's been weird. But I'nigo..." She sighs. "He won't even talk to me now. Which is fine, but it's making her mad."
Davram sighs, as he leans his head back against the wall. "I'm sorry to hear that, Taini. If he's going to be that... he's not worth the trouble. Riders... as you're probably finding out... don't usually make good, long-term mates."
"I wasn't even thinking about being a mate, Dav." Taini says, frowning. "He's my weyrlingmaster." She sighs. "I can kind of see that now, but it's more that she thinks he's going to keep us back, prevent us fr4om learning, because I went back... As a duty, mind you..." She pauses there, looking back down to find her gold again. "which he should understand..."
Davram shifts slightly against the wall, where he's sitting, as he looks downward at the cave's floor. "I'm sorry; I jumped to a conclusion I shouldn't have, Taini." He pauses a moment, before continuing. "This is his first time at being a Weyrlingmaster... he's going to be a little rough around the edges for a while. I know that doesn't help you, or the other weyrlings, but... maybe you'll understand a little."
"Maybe." Taini says, fiddling with some of the detritus on the ground around her. "But I know him, and there's a lot more to it than his newness to the job." She shrugs. Birgith moves a little, changing which part of her gets the sun. Taini looks down at her fondly. "I'm so glad I went back, though."
Davram follows Taini's gaze out and downward, toward the young gold in the lake. He nods, slowly, then replies, softly, "I remember when I first impressed. It was..." He sighs, deeply this time, letting the sentence trail off. "He was my whole life."
Birgith turns, her head facing them, lifting a tired muzzle toward the pair. "Yeah, she is." Taini says, fondly, then glances back toward Davram. "I'm sorry. It's been hard for you, since I've been back, hasn't it?"
Davram shrugs, and sighs again. "It's not as bad as it would have been... a while ago." He smiles, his eyes softening. "Delliah, Ariah, and Torzhan have helped to ease a lot of... of the pain I had."
Taini nods. "That's good. I know having my family around has made it easier for me to deal with this, too." A shrug. "And Birgith's so good about it. She gets frustrated, but she is okay."
Davram nods, again. "You'll find, as time goes on, that Birgith will become not only your lifemate, but your life... you'll become much closer than you ever thought you could be with... anything, or anyone, in your life."
Taini nods. "Yeah, I can kind of see that." Taini says, grinning. "She has a tendency to pick up on what I'm feeling, so, I'm trying to be kind of copacetic about the situation. For her sake. Looking for the good in things, you know."
Thera clambers up from the beach.
"You shouldn't shelter her too much, Taini. She's going to have to face, all too soon, dangers neither of you have had to deal with before." Davram sighs, a sad look on his face, now. "It's not going to be easy... for any of us... for a long time to come." Taini sits on the ledge, playing with small rocks and sand and such around her. Davram is nearby. "I'm not sheltering her." Taini says, of the dragon they can see below. "But I also don't want her going off and knocking him over in the middle of a lesson because he ignored us again." She laughs. "Although that would be..." She pauses. "Don't even think about it." To herself, to Bee, or maybe to both."
Halfway climbed up, Thera leans backwards and looks down calling out "You can't climb up here Dear Heart. I'm going to watch you swim from here!" She'll pull herself up the final bit then blink in surprise as she spots the other two before hauling herself onto the ledge, so that her feet dangle "Sorry" she'll mumble "Didn't think anyone else would be up here."
Davram shrugs, himself, then moves further back into the small cavern, to make room for the other weyrling. "We're just taking a break from the world, as it were."
Taini smiles as Thera's head appears over the ledge. "It's no problem. Birgith wanted to sun, and I didn't." A shrug. "I'm used to it here. She, being southern born, likes the sun." She peers down to see the little brown. "He's looking well." Thera grins over her shoulder at Davram "I thought that was what the last month was for. Just you and your dragon and food and oiling and more food and more oiling and" her eyes roll but she grins "It's been wonderful to get out of the Barracks!". She'll glance at Taini "His hind leg is larger then the other so he's kinda moving funny, but I'nigo says that's kinda normal for dragons that are going to be Huge. They're already laying bets that he's going to be bigger then Xanth or Ezzith!" Her expression will go slightly reserved as she glances back over to Davram, checking on whether dragon enthusiasm is unkind or not.
Davram chuckles, slightly. "You've got a much longer time than just a month, feeding, oiling, feeding, and bathing, and feeding your dragonets, before they're big enough to hunt on their own. They grow fast, but sometimes it doesn't seem fast enough." He looks out over the lake, at both dragons in the water, then comments, "They're doing well."
Taini grins. "Oh, man, that'd be different. Wouldn't take much for him to pass Xanth. He's kinda scrawny." Birgith looks up at the ledge, and Taini laughs. "But apparently has some skills, or wouldn't be weyrleader." This the dragon's opinion. "Have you been able to get through the obstacle course yet?" Taini asks her friend. "We almost did once, but I had to explain to her that I'm only so tall, so I have to climb that one part. I can't just jump or fly over it." A snort.
Thera grins at Davram and then shakes her head, looking back down at the dragon in the lake "No, it's just starting to get less fuzzy" and she taps her head "I still sometimes can't figure out whose saying what. Kyana and I were talking about that the other day, we think that's why I'nigo's making us do that stuff, to make it more clear." She'll grimace with embarrassment and giggle a bit "Had's belly was itchy and I asked A'ryn to scratch my tummy!" Turning her head to glance at Taini "I guess you guys went through that already huh?"
Davram laughs, a little, at Thera's anecdote, then shakes his head. "It does get better, as you're finding out, but it takes time." He glances over at Taini. "What course is he having you go through?"
"Yeah, we did." Taini remembers, looking up at the ceiling of the ledge as she speaks. "It wasn't quite the same, though. I did nearly deck a couple people before I realized that maybe I wasn't the one who was mad at them." She explains for Davram. "He wants us to separate our viewpoint from theirs, so he's got us going through a fairly basic obstacle course blindfolded. We have to let our dragons guide us." She shrugs. "It's kind of a novel idea, but it's frustrating for some."
"I sort of like it" the feeling she means and Thera glances up at the sky and closes her eyes leaning forward just enough to see straight down, a dreamy peaceful whisper "Like when he's floating right now and I can feel like I'm doing that too." She'll blink and look backwards "Well practice will help."
Davram nods, in agreement, then looks out over the lake at the sun, and sits up, wincing at a pain in his side. "Delliah's going to be angry at me, if I don't get back to take care of the children soon. She's got work she needs to get done."
Taini nods. "Tell them I said hello." She smiles. Birgith stirs, and Taini sighs. "Now, looking at the water, she wants a bath. It's so dry here." She grins. "Sorry, Thera."
Thera shrugs and waves it away "No worries". She'll edge along the ledge to let them away but her eyes are already closed, floating it seems. Current Location: Sandy Ledge Current Mood: contemplative
